How big are the candles?

We have two different sizes:

our 8 ounce candle jars contains a net weight of 6.5 ounces of wax, while our 12 ounce candle jars contain a net weight of 10.5 ounces of wax.

Our 8 ounce candles do not come with crystal while our larger candles do.

How long do the candles burn?

Our candles are made from premium slow-burning Wood wicks and can last up to 20-40 hours, sometimes they will last longer. Depending on the size of candle you purchase will determine the amount of time the candle will burn for.

How strong are your scents?

No one likes a candle that gives them a headache or aggravates their allergies. Comfort by Dee Guerra Candles are crafted with an aromatherapy level of essential oils. They are meant to enhance rather than overpower your senses or room. Our scents tend to be lighter than your typical fragrance oil candles as they are not meant to take over your entire home. Our scents are also meant to play/blend together. Try multiple scents at once to transform your home fragrance experience.

Why the wooden wick?

Wood wicks burn cleaner than most cotton wicks that produce soot and ash, and unlike cotton wicks, wood wicks require little to no trimming. They're also made from recycled trees and proceeds of our wick purchase have gone into planting more trees. The wicks make a crackling sound and the flame makes a special teardrop shape as the candle burns.

What’s a soy wax blend?

We pride ourselves on focusing on quality over cost to produce a candle that is both memorable and enjoyable. We use a blended coconut and soy wax because it's cleaner burning, better for the environment and you than regular paraffin wax and burns longer.

What do I do with the crystal?

You can let your crystals stay in the wax as your candle burns. If you want to remove your crystal, do it after the candle has been burning (but not currently lit) and the wax is still soft. Remove the crystal from your candle with a metal spoon and afterwards rinse with warm soapy water. Add it to your window display, desk, altar, under your pillow, pocket or any place you need it to give healing and energy.

Where are your candles made?

Our candles are hand-poured in the Bronx, New York. Each one is unique and made with attention to detail and optimum aesthetics in mind. No candle is exactly the same as another, they might be close... but each is still unique.

What are the Rules and Regulations for a solid burn?

  • Light your candle in a well-ventilated area, away from anything that could fall or blow into the candle (think windows and curtains). Also keep your candles away from curious furry friends and small children.
  • The first burn is the most important. Light up your candle and burn until the wax pool reaches the edge of the container on all sides before you put it out. This helps to ensure the best burn for the life of the candle. This could take up to 2 hours as wood wicks have a shorter flame than conventional cotton wicks.
  • Never leave your candles burning unattended.
  • Don't let your candle burn longer than 4 hours at a time.
  • Keep your wick short at 1/8 in. The wood wick should burn away naturally, but if you notice your wick is too long, just trim it with a pair of scissors.
  • Watch as your crystals are released from the wax. If a crystal moves too close to the wick, simply move it to the edge of the wax pool or remove it from the container with a spoon and wash it off with soap and water. Your crystal will sink below the wax after the first burn, but don't worry. It will reveal itself again when relit!

Why is my wick not staying lit?

If you don’t allow your candle enough time to form a full melt pool on the first burn, a little tunnel may start to form around the wick. This will make it more difficult for the wax around the edges of the jar to melt, causing the tunneling effect to continue with each burn.

Other than the tunneling problem, if your wood wick candle won’t stay lit it’s probably because the wick is too long, or it needs to be trimmed clean of burnt material. You’ll want to clean off any burnt pieces after each burn. Make sure to let your candle cool before trimming, because you don’t want any bits of ash or wick left in the wax.

If your candle won’t stay lit because it is “drowning” in a wax pool, try using a paper towel or napkin to soak up some of the excess wax.

Then wait for a minute or so, relight your candle, and repeat until your wick has room to breathe!

If the above two won’t work, we’ve heard of people scraping out the wax near the edge of the jar, or even creating a little dome of aluminum foil around the rim of the container to help melt the hard wax at the edges.

Those are both last resort options though - so no guarantees!
